Stories by children. Stories for children.
We turn original stories into personally directed illustrated musical films—made to be shared, remembered and rediscovered.
The deeper promise: we listen carefully, preserve what matters and transform the story without losing the person inside it.
The business of listening carefully
Families are not simply buying pictures, music or an MP4. They are trusting someone to understand why a story matters, protect its distinctive voice and return it as something worth keeping.
That attentive interpretation is what makes a Storybook Film personal. Technology supports the making; human judgement decides what belongs.
Explore why stories matterMore than personalisation
Many personalised gifts add a name or photograph to something already made. Storybook Film Studio begins with the actual source: its voice, characters, humour, intention and emotional centre.
Our service is recognition-led personalisation: we do not insert someone into a prepared product. We direct a new creative response around their actual story.
A story that lives on
A child’s story preserves their imagination.
A grandparent’s story preserves something they wanted to pass on.
This is family story preservation in a form children can enjoy: words become characters, music and moving images, creating a digital heirloom the family can watch, share and rediscover for years.
Asked to describe the experience in one sentence, Ainsley replied: “I can’t do it justice.”
Ainsley recognised moments he had forgotten and felt that the finished film remained unmistakably his story, while giving it a new dimension and wider appeal.
Val found it even more enchanting on a second viewing. She said they could not stop smiling.
Their story, Look Closer, became a complete illustrated musical film and Premiere Experience.
The journey of a story
Each element is directed as part of one work, so the result feels coherent rather than assembled.

We identify the voice, strongest moments and details that must survive adaptation.

Characters, visual language, music and story rhythm are developed around the source.

The film is edited, reviewed and delivered—with a premiere experience at higher tiers.
The output matters. The process is part of the product.
How it works
You do not need to prepare a production brief. Begin with the story and why it matters.
Every story is considered before it is accepted.
We review suitability, permissions, source material, creative fit and current capacity so we can make sure the project can be treated with the care it deserves.
Share what it is, who wrote it, who it is for and why this moment matters.
We review the source, permissions, complexity and timing, then recommend an achievable package.
The story is shaped for screen while its voice, meaning, characters and recognisable details are protected.
One creative direction guides the soundtrack, illustrations, continuity, pacing and edit.
You review within the agreed package boundary; studio errors are corrected without using the creative allowance.
Permanent files are supplied. Diamond and Legacy projects also receive a hosted Premiere Experience.
Source fidelity
Faithfulness does not mean copying every sentence literally. It means knowing what must be protected: an odd phrase, a recurring image, a character’s personality, a family joke or the reason the story was written.
The aim is to amplify what is already meaningful—not replace it with generic polish.

Every tier includes the complete Storybook Film. Higher tiers add keepsakes, a hosted premiere and the storyteller’s own voice.

The work may feel magical. The terms should not be mysterious.
Ask about your storyNo. It may be handwritten, rough, short or uneven. We review what is there and identify the moments that can work on screen without correcting away its personality.
Creative tools may support illustration, music and production. They are not the proposition. Story choices, source fidelity, character continuity, visual style, musical pacing, restraint and final quality remain human responsibilities.
That is a core creative test. Adaptation can simplify structure or translate the story across media, but its important language, characters, intention and emotional meaning should still feel like the author’s.
No automatic promise is made. Every enquiry is considered for permissions, sensitivity, source material, creative fit, complexity and capacity so we can decide whether we can do it justice.
Yes. A password-protected private Diamond or Legacy premiere is available with a 10% supplement. Public archive inclusion is reflected in the listed package price and still requires explicit written approval. Permanent delivered files remain with the client even if hosting later ends.
Every package includes the final HD MP4 as a permanent delivery. Gold, Diamond and Legacy include the additional downloadable materials listed above. Hosted pages depend on the stated hosting term.
No. Early projects demonstrate creative capability and meaningful personal responses, not tested educational, therapeutic or wellbeing outcomes.
Begin with what matters
You can begin with a few sentences. Tell us what the story is, who created it, who it is for and why you would like it brought to life.
Places are limited because every accepted project is personally reviewed and directed. An enquiry is a conversation, not a commitment or automatic acceptance.
About me
Darrell Cobner • Founder and creative director
I have spent more than 30 years finding the story inside complexity. In elite sport, including work with the RFU, that meant recognising patterns and decisive moments under pressure. As a lecturer and pracademic, it meant helping students understand evidence and find their own professional pathways.
Storybook Film Studio is the latest expression of that same purpose. The tools are image, music and film; the real work is judgement—understanding what matters, what must be protected and how to honour the person behind the words.
The story already exists. My role is to help others see it.
